You, the scientist, would like to create and manage your data to reap the benefits intrinsic in their long-term preservation, sharing and reuse opportunities. You want not only to recover the effort spent generating or collecting your data but first of all, you want to extract the maximum of good science from them.

Your data needs

To reap the benefits deriving from reuse, scientific data should be discoverable, unambiguously and certainly identified, publicly accessible and persistent. These are the prerequisites to trust the data and to make the scientist’s authorship clear.

We offer

On behalf of the Swiss scientific community, CSCS provides a service to create Persistent Identifiers (PID) that identify reliably and unambiguously your data and lets you change the data storage loacation without making the corresponding PID invalid.

 

 

The Swiss Persistent Identifier (PID) service for scientific data

CSCS provides a service for the Swiss scientific community to create and manage identifiers that point unambiguously and reliably to scientific datasets independent from their physical location and from physical location changes. These identifiers are called Persistent Identifiers, in short: PID.

We offer access to various services like the creation of individual PIDs in our service page. Here you have the possibility to create, edit, and display your PID via the browser. If you need a larger amount of PIDs or would like to integrate the generation or use in your application, contact us.

This service is not limited to PID created at CSCS. Since September 2018 CSCS is a member of the Persistent Identifiers for eResearch (ePIC) consortium that coordinates a network of PID resolver machines managed by the consortium members to provide a reliable, high availability translation service of PID into the corresponding access mechanism for the data.

Besides this foundation service, CSCS will implement various services based on PID to make the creation, long-term storage and management of data compliant with the FAIR requirements. The service will be open to all CSCS users.
